Random Things

1. I am so mad at the military. Nathan was sick all weekend with a sore throat. At first it wasn't too bad, but by Sunday he was in a bad way. Sore throat, cough, throwing up. The works. So, on Monday morning he went to the person he's supposed to see in order to get permission to see a doctor. She started out by asking him how long he had been feeling poorly, and he told her all weekend. So then, rather than sending him to the doctor because he'd been sick for awhile now, she yelled at him for not going to the ER. Seriously? What person sits in an ER for 5 hours for what is likely to be the flu? That is absolutely ridiculous. He probably just needs some sleep, which he can't get unless he sees a doctor who will give him permission to go home! But, rather than letting him see the doctor, she figured if he wasn't feeling bad enough to go to the ER, he wasn't sick enough to see a doctor either and denied him permission.

To add insult to injury, he had a PT test today. He is practically dragging himself on the floor to get anywhere, but because he couldn't see a doctor and get a waiver, he had to be tested on his running, push ups, and sit ups. Yeah right. That's going to end well. And probably make him feel worse in the process. I am just livid about the whole thing.

2. My class is doing a project called a Living Wax Museum. As part of this project, they have to prepare a 1-2 minute "autobiographical" speech pretending to be a famous person. I told them they could have 1 note card to use as a help. They can only write words and phrases as a guide for if they get nervous and forget. It is not meant to be the whole speech for them to read. Well, one of my class clown students tried to get around this rule by researching Obama. He tried to convince me that if Obama uses a teleprompter for all of his speeches, he should get to read his whole speech off his note card. I found it a brilliant argument, and if it was fair to the other students, I would have said yes. We both at least got a good laugh about it!

  1. So sorry to hear that Nathan has been ill. We send our love. I sure dislike people who like to weld power over others.
