25 months later, Nathan is finally done with tech school. This is the part of your military career you spend in training. I believe most are less than a year, but because he has to be such a smarty-pants, his was A LOT longer. Learning a whole new language will do that. On August 16th I was able to go up to The Land of Nothing to attend a small graduation ceremony. It was really nice, and I am so proud of him and everything he's been able to accomplish.
In the classic Bad News/Good News scenario, my camera decided to die on me once I got to San Angelo. It was the victim of a purse flood (someone decided it was a good idea to put a mug of water in her purse temporarily while her hands really full). I thought it had survived, and then I discovered the zoom wasn't working. That's actually a pretty big deal to me, so I figured I could keep using it but start researching for a new camera. Well...on this trip it decided to no longer turn on. So I didn't have a camera for this pretty important occasion. Bad News.
Good News: Nathan invited the senior couple missionaries to his graduation. They serve the church as military liaisons and are pretty much awesome. They were able to make it, and they brought their working camera. We had purchased a disposable camera, but Elder Fields took such great pictures with his that ours wasn't necessary. Plus it's really hard to go back to film when you're used to digital and seeing pictures instantly!
At any rate, I don't have the pictures yet. I had hoped to get them before writing this post, but I'm also off my one post/week goal by a week and needed SOMETHING to write about. As soon as we get those pictures, I'll be sure to get them up!
EDIT: I forgot to mention the reason it's only sort of done (reference to the title there) is that Nathan is stuck in San Angelo for an undetermined amount of time waiting for paperwork. So while he is done with class, we are unable to move on. A bummer, but it'll get worked out. Hopefully soon!
