My forum friends have told me that the unofficial motto of the military is "semper gumby." Semper is Latin for always, and gumby is pop culture for flexible. So translation: always flexible. I have never been accused of flexibility, but I'm definitely getting a crash course in it now!
Our original plan was for me to live in Texas until August, when my mom and I would be driving up to Utah for my new nephew's baby blessing. From there, I would continue to Monterey where I'd meet up with Nathan and actually be able to live together again. Well, plans changed.
During graduation, Nathan told me he wouldn't be going out to California until October. So, my mom and I bought plane tickets to Utah for the blessing, and I would figure out how to get to CA later. I wasn't happy with it, but I couldn't change anything so I got over it. Well, new plans change too.
This week, Nathan found out that he will be going to CA at the end of August after all--just like our first plans. However, at this point, my mom and I have plane tickets to Utah that can't be refunded. So now my plan is go to Utah for the blessing, come back, and drive to CA. My mom is considering helping me drive to Phoenix where we have family, and I would drive the rest of the way. That would help out soooo much, so we'll see. Of course, Nathan could call tomorrow and say he's staying 'til October after all. Semper gumby to the nth degree!

Heh. Life's great isn't it? Hopefully things will get a little more specific soon as my class picks up.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine that is frustrating. One of my second cousins lived right here down in Tucson until recently. He is in the air force and he and his family just relocated to San Antonio. His family has had to be very flexible. Sometimes he'd find out a few days before that they needed him in another state for, oh 6 weeks. They told him he'd be in Tucson for at least 3-5 years, but they changed their mind about that. They probably wouldn't have bought a home here if they'd known that. In any case, they always talk about how being in the military means being flexible. Good luck with that. If you do end up driving to Cali from Houston, feel free to stop by here before you get to Phoenix. I imagine you'd take I-10 all the way in, and well, we live pretty close to I-10. Good luck!
