Finally some news

During the past three weeks I've been in my first of three tech schools. It's called Aircrew Fundamentals and it's designed to teach you the basics of being part of an aircrew aboard one of the bigger military aircraft (i.e. C-5 Galaxy, C-130 Hercules, JSTARS, E-3 Sentry, whatever). All 7 crew positions (boom operator, flight engineer, load master, mission systems, operation systems, flight attendant, aerial gunner, linguist) require this course before you can move on to your REAL tech school. Well anyway, I graduated that 3 week course today. Learned a lot. Being in this class made me very very very excited about having a job that entails flying. In case you are one of the very very few people I haven't told about this yet, I actually will be receiving my aircrew wings upon completion of all of my tech schools, which is just way too amazing.

During the past week I've been trying to get my language assignment from either my instructor or my dorm leader or someone. It just hasn't come through the system. So I was worried that I'd just be sitting here in Lackland twiddling my thumbs for months just waiting to find out what language assignment I would get. This evening word finally came in though. I'm leaving on Friday for the DLI in Monterey to learn Arabic. The 70 week course starts on October 29th. Between now and then I at least get to leave San Antonio in favor of California. I'm pretty excited about that. And so is Amanda. Assuming everything works out, Amanda should be able to join me over there about two weeks after I arrive. FINALLY together again.

  1. Sweet, Arabic! Wasn't that your top choice or at least one of them? Congratulations on moving onto the next phase.

  2. Woo hoo! Congratulations. And I'm so glad to hear you'll finally be together again - and in lovely, moderately temperatured California to boot!
