Shopping!

On Saturday, a friend from work took me to the outlet mall in Gilroy (about 30 minutes away). I was looking for a dress or two and came back with much, much more. It's actually embarrassing how much I purchased in a day! Some things I am absolutely in love with and will definitely keep; others I'm not so sure about. So I need your help!

First up are the jackets. As I was shopping, I remembered that I am in dire need (okay, maybe not dire exactly) of a lightweight raincoat. I found two that I fell in love with, but I really can't keep them both. I definitely do not need two. So here they are (please ignore my face in these pictures--my bangs are not done and my double chin is showing big time!):

Jacket #1 is a cute little red number. The pictures really don't do it justice. It is a fitted jacket and actually gives me a waist, which is a bit of a miracle right now. The thing I don't like about it is that I don't have full movement of my arms in it--it is a tiny bit constricting. It is something I can live with though, since I don't plan on doing jumping jacks in it. Just get from A to B in the rain.Jacket #2: This one is brown and pink, which is one of my all-time favorite color combinations. I had finally settled on the red jacket above when I saw this one, and was actually kind of upset because before seeing it, I was thrilled with my choice. Now, I am conflicted. It is not fitted and is actually probably one size too big. This is actually a plus for me in some ways though because I love an over-sized jacket/coat. I am constantly stealing Nathan's when he's not wearing it because to me, a large jacket feels like a big hug. :) The other plus to this one is that it is double-layered with a zip-in lining. I took it out for the picture because I feel like a huge marshmallow when it's in. The thing is, Nathan and I could be headed to Nebraska or the D.C. area where such a jacket would be useful. But we could also be going to Georgia where it's not. And I do have a nice winter coat already.

What to do, what to do? Cute fitted jacket that fits a bit snug in the arms and is only useful in chilly weather or large, more comfortable but not as flattering jacket that is useful in chilly and snowy weather? On to the dresses!

Dress 1: I have quite a few dresses, but until I manage my weight-loss goal (and it's taking a LONG time to get there!), I need to accept my body as-in and purchase at least a couple that fit me now so I have something to wear besides the same three skirts that I can't even zip up all the way. (Sad but oh so true.) This dress cost $40, which is a little more than I was looking to spend. I had hoped to keep it under $40, but when I saw this one I was getting a little desperate. I do like it, but again had hoped to find something at least a tad cheaper. Dress 2: After buying Dress 1, I managed to find this one that I adore at a steal--only $13!!! I am definitely keeping this one and just wanted to show it off. So the question becomes, do I keep Dress 1? I like it, and the price is good if not great. Is that dress cute enough to keep?

Since I am incapable of making decisions on my own, I am putting it to the masses. Okay, the 5 or 6 of you who read this blog. I have two questions for you:
1. Jacket 1 or Jacket 2?
2. Keep Dress 1 or take it back?

What do you think?

  1. Sounds like a fun trip! K, I would definitely keep dress #1 because as much as I can totally relate about feeling like $40 is a lot, it's really not when it comes to dresses. Plus, it's super cute and flattering. Now about the jackets...I'm conflicted too! My first impression would definitely be to keep the red one. But here's the question, how restricting is it REALLY. I have a nice coat that I kept trying to make work even though it was tight in the arms/shoulders but eventually, I was tired of being even slightly uncomfortable. So if that red one doesn't sound like my circumstance, I'd return the other. Keep me posted on what you decide. :)

  2. I'm going to go with Jacket #2. They are both cute, don't get me wrong. But I like #2 better. And while you might be going to Georgia and not needing the lining, what are the chances that you'll stay in Georgia for the rest of your life? Slim, I'm guessing. And then that extra layer will come in handy!

And, I think you should keep the dress. A girl needs options, and really, $40 isn't so bad for a dress. Plus, it's cute.

    There are my votes!

  3. My mom and I love dress #2 as well! And we both vote for jacket #1 and to take dress #1 back.

  4. I love jacket 1, jacket 2 is just so-so for me. I think jacket 1 flatters you really well. As far as the dresses go, dress 2 is adorable on you and how awesome that you got it for $13. I am a little torn on dress 1. It's cute, but I am not sure I agree that it is as flattering as it could be. The neckline just looks a little strange to me. However, that is just based off one little photo, so what do I know. If you love it, keep it. $40 really isn't much for a nice dress.

And, to answer your question about my favorite president, Washington most definitely wins for that one, but most of the first few are high on my list - Jefferson, Adams, Jackson. We just keep straying further from the Constitution as we go. Those guys wrote the Constitution, therefore understood it as it was originally intended. That being said, they each did their own things to not adhere to it as they should have, even with their understanding.

And finally, did gilroy smell like garlic when you went there to shop?

  5. I vote jacket #1 (I like the other one too, but I really like the red one, and you said you already have a nice winter coat, right?). As for the dress, I'm torn. I think it's cute, but I'm super cheap and I think $40 is kind of a lot unless you absolutely love it, so I say if you love it, keep it, if not, return it.

  7. I actually like jacket two! And here is why! You like it better, the colors how big it is, and from the picture I actually think it looks more fitting because of the colors. The shape of the brown if you look at it actually looks like an hour glass figure, which I think make you look like you have an hour glass figure. You also said it's got extra layers which could come in handy! I love the 2nd dress! Very cute and flattering! With the 1st dress, it really depends. I think the neckline on it is a little odd with the black undershirt but if you had a diff. undershirt it wouldn't look odd. I'm the kind of person who when I shop I see really cute things, but because they do cost a lot of money I don't know that I would feel 100% comfortable in them because everytime I wear the thing that cost tons of money I'd be thinking, I paid a lot of money for this when I might've been able to find something else for cheaper. But that is just how I think! It's not like $40 is a lot of money, especially in California. I think you should go with your gut feeling especially when shopping.

  8. Hmm... I can see the conflict with the jacket, but I say go with #2 cuz you like the colors and it fits better.
LOVE dress #2, but I'd take dress #1 back - it's ok, but not great like the other one.

  9. Thanks for all the comments! I'm not sure the picture of Dress 2 is showing very well, so I'm going to take a couple more. The neckline on it is different than a normal neckline, but I think it kinda curled under in the picture making it look even more unusual (and not in a good way!).

Also with the red jacket, I should have mentioned that I absolutely love the color as well. For better or worse, I am drawn to bright colors, and red, depending on the shade, is about as bright as it gets. I'm still quite torn, but I have a couple of weeks before I have to decide!

  10. I like jacket #2 and I say keep both dresses...you've been saying you need more and you deserve to spoil yourself a little, especially with being kept on this semester at work! Congrats! Now find a way to get off and come to DC with me in April ;)

  11. I vote you keep it all!!!

Ok, but if you have to choose. I say go with what's comfortable. Usually when I end up buying something that's not very comfortable or fits me funny, I don't wear it very often and then a year goes by and I can count how many times one hand I wore the darn thing and wish I had never bought it in the first place. So if that's how you think you might feel, than number 2's the way to go.

I think you should keep the dress if it makes you feel pretty and confident despite how much it costs. And I do love the second dress and was actually looking for something similar. Too bad Gilroy is so far away! :(
