A Letter From Missionaries

Yesterday, I received a very unexpected and very welcome e-mail from missionaries in San Antonio who met Nathan at church. I guess as a standard practice, they e-mail the families of new recruits at Lackland. While it is standard, it was so nice to get that bit of news. Nathan has not been able to write or call yet (other than the strange one at 4 a.m.), and to hear anything was a real blessing. Here is what I got:

31 MAY 09

To The Family of Airman Basic Nathan Tenney;

We are full-time missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in San Antonio, Texas. As part of our Church assignment, we had the opportunity to meet Nathan on Sunday at the Base Chapel. He gave us permission to e-mail his address and photographs
(which are attached below).
His address at Lackland AFB is:

AB TENNEY, NATHAN L.
323 TRS / FLT 509 - Dorm B-6
PSC #3
1320 Truemper Street
Lackland AFB, TX 78236-5570

Graduation is scheduled for
24 July 09. Graduation dates may change, therefore, we suggest that you confirm the graduation date with your trainee before purchasing tickets that cannot be modified. The following website gives considerable information about Basic Military Training (BMT) Graduation.

If you plan to attend graduation activities, the lodging options are as follows: For spouses of Trainees, we suggest you contact the Gateway Inn on base and see if accommodations can be obtained on a space available basis (210) 671-3622. There are several motels close to the base such as La Quinta Inn, Red Roof Inn, Howard Johnson, Holiday Inn Express, Super 8, Motel 6, and Quality Inn.

If you plan to drive or rent a car, you will need to have a current drivers' license, current car registration, and proof of insurance in order to gain access to the Base. The San Antonio Airport is approximately 25 miles from the base. Useful Information may be obtained by calling 1-800-726-7286 (car rental, hotel, and airlines reservations).

There are many things to see in San Antonio. Among them are the Alamo, the River Walk, a Texas Missions tour, Sea World, and many shops and restaurants downtown. The BMT Reception Center operates a bus on Saturday mornings that goes downtown. Cost is $2.50/person. The Reception Center can provide more information on these options.

Trainees may not be able to write or call home for the first couple of weeks until their flight earns the privilege, therefore encouraging letters from home would be welcome by them. We are confident that the Trainees will write as soon as permission is granted by their Military Training Instructors (MTI's).

Sincerely,

Elder and Sister Reynolds
