Hard to Please
I've decided I have problems. My paperwork issues are over and I can FINALLY sub, and I'm not happy. Here's the problem: time conflicts. I was truly afraid that they would never solve whatever problem was going on over there, or at least it would take until the end of the school year. We really need money now, so I went out and found me another job. I'm a tutor, and theoretically it's something I can do while subbing. In actuality, I have tutoring clients at 2:30 on Mondays and Thursdays, so I can't sub on those 2 days for sure. And my boss is trying to set up clients starting at 3:00 on other days, which limits my geographical area where I can sub and still get to work on time. I actually got a phone call this morning asking if I wanted to be a long-term sub until the end of the school year, and I had to turn it down since I can't subon Mondays and Thursdays. Although, upon reflection, long-term subbing is too much like full-time teaching without the salary and benefits. I really want more freedome than that. I wasn't as sad when I remembered that. I have liked tutoring, and it's a job I can carry on into the summer which is definitely an advantage. It will also look good on my resume--better than subbing, anyway. Plus, I just started, and I'm not the kind of person that can quit a job and the commitment I made so quickly after starting. But subbing pays quite a bit more, and money is good. Sigh. Life is never simple.
